Dr. G is taping a TLC special on the Anthony case that will premiere Jan. 1. As of now it will be titled: "The True Story of Caylee Anthony." "It's more about my take on the science I was involved in," she says. She said that the decision to classify Caylee's death a homicide was the "only logical conclusion … the circumstances of death did not fit anything but a homicide." She mentions the delay in reporting the child's disappearance, the body's disposal in a swampy area and the duct tape with the remains.
Baez' thoughts? "Dr. G needs a TV special to explain her science because her testimony was not based on science. All three reasons she used to give her 'opinion' that it was a homicide did not require any medical training whatsoever. That is why the jury rejected it."The program also interviews forensic anthropologist John Schultz of the University of Central Florida, forensic anthropologist Mike Warren of the University of Florida and toxicologist Bruce Goldberger of the University of Florida.
One topic involved in the show? Should Caylee's skull should have been opened? Anthropologists thought it wasn't necessary, and she agreed. This was VERY controversial during the trial.

Are we going to hear more lies in Courtroom 23 today?
Yesterday we were all shocked when Cindy lied on the stand to save her daughter, so I'm wondering what if any lies are we going to hear today.

Yesterday Baez asked for a sidebar as soon as court started and today when Judge Perry entered Baez had some matters to deal with first among the defense team. Judge Perry did not seem pleased and reminded them that this was why he asks them to be in at 8:30.
Cindy Anthony
Baez says he wants to talk to her about the shorts found at remains site. You said shorts no longer fit her? CA: I testified that last time I saw her, she was in 3T size. Baez is trying to prove that Caylee would have put on those shorts because she wouldn't be aware of sizes. Baez asked if Caylee was growing fast; Cindy said yes, very fast. Baez wanted to show a video of Caylee. SIDEBAR -2 minutes in
It's the video of Casey lying on the floor playing with Caylee. She's putting Caylee on her knees like she is flying. Cindy wiped her eyes with a tissue. She says she's watched it hundreds of times. JB: Why do you believe that was taken early 2007, aside from Caylee's size? CA: I've watched it 100s of times. CA: Photos of me holding Caylee same day. I was wearing a Hawaiian skirt that I didn't wear after because it wasn't popular any longer. Baez shows photo to Cindy now. She says it's her backyard swimming pool. JB: Is that what looks like w/ladder connected? CA:yes JB: Does the ladder disconnect? CA: Yes. Baez asks her to telestrate how it's removed and she marks area where lifts off hinge. A new picture shows Caylee climbing ladder. Cindy is behind her helping her. Cindy says Caylee could climb into the pool by herself. Cindy says she would stand behind her for safe keeping. Next pic is of Caylee about to step into the pool with Cindy climbing up ladder behind her. Cindy is crying talking about next picture. It's Caylee getting into pool. Her feet are in the water. Caylee is wearing a life jacket. Caylee would swim 3-4 times/wk, Cindy said, and she always wore the life vest. CA: For most part, she'd wait for us. As she got older, would get more anxious to get in. We always had a life jacket on her.

Cindy says they taught Caylee they had to be with her if she wanted to go into pool. Life vest stayed in back patio. The next picture is Caylee opening glass sliding door- she is alone. She is wearing a little summer dress and tennis shoes. CA says there was no bar on the sliding glass door. JB: Could Caylee open doors easily? CA: Yes, she could. Casey wiped away tears as photos are shown.
Cindy says Caylee never left home without shoes. Cindy says she liked to wear shoes. *Personal note: If Caylee loved wearing shoes, wouldn't she still wear them if she went out by herself. She would have attempted putting flip flops on I would assume. * June 16, 2008 is the day the defense claims Caylee drowned in the pool. Cindy said that the ladder was up, door was unlocked, and side gate was open when she came home from work. She mentioned this to George and people at her job. When Baez asked if they were having marital problems 4th sidebar was called and judge asked for "special recess" for jury. Court in recess for 25 min smoke break.
Before Jury entered:
Judge: What is your defense? You can't use broad blanket of defense to get any and every thing in.Judge: That's why I admitted photos of Caylee climbing into pool, based on your opening. If your theory is ever-changing,maybe somebody needs to explain to me what your theory of defense is."
The judge wants to know because he has made decisions about admitting evidence based on what he believed to be def theory, in part the opening statement.
*Lee is in courtroom sitting next to George. Casey is staring them down. Looks crazier than normal!. Judge Stan Strickland is in the courtroom as well. He was the first Judge in this case.*
Cindy has been wearing purple these past two days. This is what I found out: People who like to consider themselves different from the common herd or unconventional often prefer purple. It is also a color meaning solidarity.
Jury Back. Cindy on Stand
JB: On July 16 2008, tell Melich about ladder left up on pool? CA: Yes. JB: Within 24 hrs of calling police? CA: Yes. JB: How many times advised LE you thought Caylee drowned in pool? Objection. Sustained. JB: Was this topic you constantly brought up with LE? LDB: Same objection. Judge: Approach sidebar. (he didn't sound pleased)
Cross Examination:
Talks about maintaining bedroom and birthday presents for Caylee when she was missing. Also talks about clothes being sold or stored when Caylee outgrew them. Caylee switched from diapers to pull ups in early 2008. She was potty trained but still carried diapers around when they went out. LDB shows a picture from the video that shows Caylee wearing a diaper or pull ups. CA: Looks like pull-up or diaper. LDB: You say she was wearing those shorts in April 2007? Yes. Hands photos to Cindy and asks if she recognizes those tags on clothing. Circo is a Target brand where they would often shop. Cindy did the laundry most of the time. Recognizes them to be tops and one pair of shorts. She recognizes them from Caylee's room. They were there in June 2008 and stayed there until seized by LE. LDB: What size clothing in Caylee's drawers? CA: I had 2Ts - those photos depicted 2Ts but I had 3Ts as well. Prosecution says that Caylee thinned out as she grew older. Cindy agrees.
*Any mother knows that sometimes clothes will fit even though the size would be smaller. My daughter up until recently wore skirts that fit her when she was 2 years old. She is currently five!*
Several pieces of clothing through Caylee's life that weren't kept in my house every day. LDB: Because packed in bag, backpack? CA: Correct. LDB: You have knowledge of diaper bag/backpack being placed in car when you took Caylee out to have change of clothes? Yes LDB: When was last time you saw those shorts? CA: Those weren't shorts I dressed Caylee in much, not 1 of my favorite outfits. Unless Casey had her in them, I don't recall seeing Caylee in them after 2007.
*Personal note: Maybe Casey put them on Caylee to show a message to Cindy. "You don't like them? Well here! I'll kill her in them!" *
Prosecution mentioned that ladder was heavy and sliding door would take some strength to open. Cindy agreed and said that Caylee was a well behaved child and listened to them. Cindy says gate would not have been able to be opened by Caylee. LDB: You testified finding ladder week prior to gas can incidents? CA: Yes. LDB: You said it's 16th, 17th? One of those two days. You called George? CA: Yes. LDB: You had to call him on his cell phone?CA: He had work phone, too, sometimes called that. LDB: Did you leave msg or talk to him? CA:I spoke to him, but not sure after I left a msg. LDB: As to June, you acknowledge you've made errors. Specifically, in your sworn statement to LE, date last saw Caylee wrong? CA: Yes. Prosecution asks if that week she worked everyday. Cindy says yes. LDB asks if she is sure. She answers she is sure. Casey continued to assert that child was kidnapped by babysitter. Cindy agrees.
ReDirect
Shown the same photos that Prosecution showed with clothing tags. Says they didn't sell all the clothing that Caylee had outgrown . She agreed. JB: Shorts Caylee found in were jean material? Cindy: A cotton type material. And knit is stretchier? CA: Absolutely. JB: Custom to go looking for clothes that didn't fit her anymore? CA: At certain times, like Christmas, holidays. Cindy was not overly strict with Caylee. Cindy thought she was above average.
Nobody looked over at Casey while stepping down or while walking up
Lee Anthony
Baez asks if he owned Sunfire at one point. LA: Yes, 2000-2005.He starts circling stains in trunk of car using same photo Cindy was shown yesterday. Stains were there since he bought car. He doesn't remember staining car, but he could have throughout his time owning it.
* Casey looks at him and tries to hold herself from "crying"*
JB: When first time you noticed Casey pregnant? Ashton: Objection. Sidebar.
Says he noticed she was pregnant early to mid 2008. *Yes, I wrote that correctly 2008! Lee said when he came out of bathroom and Casey was going in, her midsection was showing. Lee said he said something like, "Excuse me...what's that?" and asked his mom if Casey was pregnant because it looked like to him. SIDEBAR!
Baez corrects him about the years. Referring to 2005. *my daughters birth year!* Lee said in middle of 2005, when Casey picked him up at airport, noticed it more, was obvious she was pregnant.
Judge Belvin Perry reprimanded Ashton for objecting before question asked. Told him to sit down!
Right before Caylee was born parents acknowledged Casey was pregnant. He didn't go to the hospital when Caylee was born because he was hurt. *Casey and Lee get emotional* Says he was angry at Cindy and Casey, because he wasn't included in the revelation even after he asked. He didn't want to believe it.
Recess for lunch until 1:30
Baez patted an emotional Lee's back as he walked off the stand. Lee is comforted by Anthony lawyer and parents.
We begin with a sidebar. (#9) Including bailiff in it as well.
Cross Examination
Asks lee about the trunk photo. Stains pre-existent in trunk? Answers yes. JA: The large stain in center of trunk, about size of basketball, was not there when you owned it? LA: No, don't recall it JA: And car didn't stench when you owned it, did it? Lee chuckles and says no. JA: Were you asked to meet w/ state in prep of your testimony and you declined? LA: Yes. Lee says he reached out to Baez and had meeting prior to him testifying earlier this week. LA said he wanted to relate some information he learned to Baez. Ashton asks Lee to read his July 2009 depo about Casey's pregnancy (what he called "the bump"). Asked if he called her out on it. Lee said it wasn't his place to do it. JA: So in July 2009 didn't call her out, but today you say you did?
JA: Your parents were excited about pregnancy? LA: Couldn't tell you. JA: No preps in home for baby? LA: Don't know. JA: Your parents were over the top, weren't they? LA: I was told let it go, was angry about it, so didn't participate. JA: In depo, discuss period of pregnancy before Caylee born? Yes JA: Indicate you felt your role was to be background support? Lee said in depo he was background support, that grandparents were over the top about the baby coming. JA: What all did they do? LA: Crib, not sure what all. JA: They converted comp room to Caylee's room? LA: Yes. JA: You were there, lived there before Caylee born? LA: Yes. JA: You knew mom went nuts w/Pooh decor, getting it ready? Lee says he didn't even walk into the room til after she was born. JA: And your mom & Casey shopped, had shower? LA: If so, not invited. JA: Aware of them having shower? LA: In June. JA: Invited their friends, Casey's friends, had a party?LA: I wasn't invited, no knowledge. Lee said he felt either it was being hidden from him or that he wasn't part of, so wasn't an attentive potential uncle. JA: Parents weren't hiding it from loved ones, invited them to party? Objection/sustained JA: Did you cry during that portion of depo (when asked if at hospital for birth)? LA: Don't recall, don't think so. JA: So what was different about the question 2 hrs ago? LA: 2 yrs ago, did not 100% believe she was dead. During 2 yrs since, come to know she is. Emotions are from regrets. JA: You spoke at memorial for Caylee Jan 2009, 6 mos before this depo? Yes, I did. JA: Nothing further.
JB: You were asked about basketball size stain in trunk. Do you see one in photo? LA: Not size of Basketball, no. JB: See white powder there? LA: Yes, that's not what I'd consider stain. Lee telestrating stains he did notice again. JB: See your mother use entire bottle of Febreze? LA:Never. JB: See LE spray trunk with BlueStar? LA: No, don't know what that is. JB: Did you meet with defense anytime prior to trial? Let me rephrase. Meet with defense prior to testifying against sister? LA: No. JB: Advise us of any testimony you were going to give against sister? LA: No. JB:Testifying truthfully for state? Objection.
JB: Ashton said parents over the top happy prior to Caylee being born. Is that what you testified to in depo? LA: Believe so. Lee says his mom wasn't happy Casey was having a baby out of wedlock. He doesn't know if shower was before/after Caylee born. Baez mentions is sitting in court room different from sitting in state attorney's office. Tells Baez he cried 2 hours ago because he doesn't want his family to go through this and he doesn't want to be here. It is extremely difficult for him. At memorial for Caylee, he didn't want to believe that she was really dead.
ReCross
JA: Remember when you testified for state? LA: Yes. JA: How many times did Mr. George (prosecution) have to refresh memory with depo? LA: Probably as many times as today. JA: In direct by JB, did you need to refresh? LA: Don't believe so. Recall was fine for JB?
*So now Lee is a liar too!? This family is completely BIZARRE!*
Interesting cross from Ashton, painting him as cooperating more with defense than state. Unlike George, who met with state.
The Judge talks to jury about the hawk who hangs outside window after eating his lunch. Makes noise.
15 minute recess
Cindy Anthony
Caylee's baby shower was on the 27th of August. She got annoyed with Baez at this moment. It was held after she was born because Caylee came a month early. JB: When was Caylee's shower? CA: Was supposed to be Aug 13, but Caylee born on 9th, so postponed. Baez wanted Cindy to identify a photo. State objects. SIDEBAR! Objection sustained.
*Cindy seems more annoyed with Baez today. What happened Cindy? Everyone knows you're a liar, now!?*
Family and friends attended baby shower. Casey's ex-fiancee mother was also there. No guys were present.
Ryan Eberlin: OCSD
On July 15, 2008 dispatched to Anthony home. Mason asked if he noticed odor when looking at Pontiac Sunfire. He says no. He handcuffed Casey Anthony and was instructed to remove them by Sergeant Hosey.
Cross Examination
She was handcuffed for 2-3 minutes and allowed to be free. She was handcuffed because Cindy informed him that Casey had stolen from her. Objection. Hearsay. Prosecution says door was opened. Mason calls sidebar. That makes 11!
* So they don't want jury to hear why she was handcuffed but they still brought this guy in!? SMART MOVE BAEZ!*
Brief legal matter-jury excused
Resume questioning without jury
Deputy says Casey stole credit cards and Cindy wanted to press charges against Casey. When she was placed in the car, Sergeant Hosey told him they were concerned about the kidnapping, not the credit cards. That was about 1:30 am; Melich arrived about 3:30-4:00 a.m. This happened before Corporal Melich arrived.
Judge Perry: Defense opened the door. The court will fashion a jury instruction to deal with this.
Jury brought in: Judge reads proposed instruction saying testimony is to explain why deputy did what he did; defendant not on trial for those acts.
LDB asks the same question and deputy gives the same response he did when jury was not present
Melich did not see this exchange. Once he arrived, deputy was not involved anymore with Casey regarding statements after this day.
CPL. Eric Edwards :OCSO homicide unit at the time of arrest. One of the lead detectives.
Mason: Do you know a Linda Tinnelli(?). Yes, I do. LDB objects. Sidebar.
Jury removed again.
Mason makes proffer. Know Linda Tinnelli? EE:Met her through the case, yes. Was brought to his attn by TexasEquuSearch volunteer. {Texas EquuSearch is a volunteer group that helped searched for Caylee} Says Tinnelli was volunteer at KidFinders tent, kept the volunteer sheet or something. CM: Ask her about duct tape? EE: Yes, saw footage from local station. EE:Was told she said someone brought duct tape from home. Edwards went to her home - asked her about bugging a lamp and tape conversation she (Tinelli) would have with George and Cindy Anthony. Edwards said they may also have asked Tinelli to wear a wire. CM: Aware of any VM msgs left on Tinnelli's phone by GA? EE - I believe it was Cindy Anthony who left msg. CM: Recall what was said? EE: Not comfortable trying to say w/o the transcript of call.
Judge asked what relevancy does this have to theory of defense? Mason mumbled something and Judge Perry said "part 2 of this question:..." and mentioned the same question again!
CM: Reveals focus of investigation not only on defendant but others. Judge: Relevancy to theory? CM: Dysfunction after drowning and who did what to try to cover up. Judge: Able to get incriminating evidence? CM: No, she declined to do it. LDB: Obvious from proffer, sidebar it's designed only to get jury to speculate on LE motive.
Mason mumbles some more arguments to Judge and Judge Perry responds with "I think I have enough experience to know what goes to an argument."
This particular evidence does not go to theory of defense. Deputies testimony will not be heard. BAM POW KABOOM! TAKE THAT DEFENSE!
Judge says jury is being sent out on a "pop tart route" Wants to deal with things now before jury enters. Has no idea who the next witness is and what she is going to testify about.
LDB: Apparently, only evidence from witness will be saw George Anthony with duct tape of some kind that wasn't identified. We'll object. Judge says it doesn't go to admissibility but to the weight jurors want to give it.
Jury returns
Linda Tinelli:She volunteered with Caylee search at command center. Saw George with duct
tape
She says there was duct tape. They would tape tablecloths onto the table (windy) Also tape missing posters up with tape.
Yuri Melich-Lead investigator -recall
JB:When called out, made aware of smell from car early on? YM:As I said before, at some point someone mentioned it. JB:George? YM:Yes. JB:Didn't do anything with the info? YM:Not til later that day. We had car brought in later on the 16th. JB:GA wanted to speak privately? YM:Don't know what he wanted, but talked to him as pulling out of driveway.
Melich left the home around 7 a.m., met back with her around noon at Universal Studios. Confiscated car after her arrest. Melich says she was arrested for elements of crime but he was ALSO worried about her harming herself. JB:After arrest, the investigation was focused on the car? YM:: Our focus was the missing child, and the also the car. Melich said it took a while for them to discover that Zanny did not exist. Casey kept talking about Zanny while she was in jail. JB:Told by everyone in home child went missing June 9, including by GA? YM: Correct. JB: Correct date June 16? YM:Yes Melich didn't know any of the Anthony's before this. Subpoenaed cell phone records of Casey, home phone, George's later on. Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation helped triangulate cell records for Casey . Not others in Anthony family. Melich says he only focused in on Casey 's cell phone records early on. Later he says he did Roy Kronk's as well. Melich interviewed Roy Kronk after the discovery of the remains. Questioning turns to Roy Kronk.Sidebar.
Kronk called in tip about Suburban Dr. Melich told another deputy to move on because it was "vague" and area had already been checked out. Melich says he has never seen duct tape with a stamp or logo on it, so that it was unusual to him. JB: You've never asked George Anthony about when and where he got the duct tape? Objection, sustained. Baez asks if Melich ever went back to ask George Anthony where duct tape with Henkel markings was? Melich says he didn't. Similar duct tape found in the Anthony home, on the gas cans. Baez asks if he determined gas can (with tape on it) was the can reported missing? He is looking at the can. The duct tape has since been removed. Melich is looking up when cans were collected. He thinks it was days within being told about George and Casey fight (over cans). Obtained statements from Roy Kronk's employers, friends. Took phone records in December but never took his computer.
Cross Examination
Melich answered questions about a "general tip" given to him by homicide detective. Was told location body was and where search dog had sniffed.
Jury excused for the day. Will resume tom. @ 9:00
JP: When is best guestimate to wrap up? Baez: Weds or Thurs. State thinks rebuttal case should take 1-2 days. JP: Only one lawyer will speak during rebuttal argument. What's the guestimate for closings? You can speak until you get tired or until the jury goes to sleep."
Judge Perry will likely give an order on Monday regarding closing arguments.
JB:We only have 2 weeks of phone records for Roy Kronk, Melich says he has months worth. Baez says he is "quite shocked" to hear Melich did inquire phone records of Kronk and George Anthony. Baez says if true it's a violation. Linda Drane Burdick says she is not aware of any discovery violation. She thinks they were included on a disc. She also says there was a court order on cell phone records to avoid a "fishing exhibition" (during Strickland days).
JP: If you need records, then try to get them, but its a little late in the day to going after red herrings.
William Rodriguez is brought up.
Baez says the Dept of Defense called Ashton. Ashton says he didn't reach out to DoD. Ashton says a Capt solicited him. Next thing Baez knew Dr. William Rodriguez did not want to testify because he was told he would be fired if he did. Baez says they will file a motion concerning this. Ashton says "bring it on""We will" was Baez' response!
Judge Perry said either we tell the jury the complete story, or we tell them to disregard his testimony and not speculate. Judge said he will find out if Rodriguez sought permission from Dept of Defense. JP said he's trying to decide whether to send the jury out for deliberations Friday evening, or have them fresh Saturday morning next week.
Judge read all the lesser counts against Casey. He said instructions for the jury will take about 45 minutes. Judge said jurors will be separated from one another once they get the case.
*Casey just zoned off during this whole transaction. Seems like it's FINALLY getting to her!*
Judge says an evidentiary hearing will happen either in the morning for 30 min or later. He says he will not interrupt trial.
Ashton walks over name/number of DoD Captain who called him. He slammed it down on defense table. Baez shrugged his arms and looked at him.
Off for the night!

Yesterday Baez asked for a sidebar as soon as court started and today when Judge Perry entered Baez had some matters to deal with first among the defense team. Judge Perry did not seem pleased and reminded them that this was why he asks them to be in at 8:30.

ReDirect
Jury returnsLinda Tinelli:She volunteered with Caylee search at command center.

Short day with the case today
Judge Belvin Perry said Wednesday would only be a half-day in court, because he must attend a judge's budget meeting that could not be rescheduled.
Maureen Bottrell: Forensic examiner from the FBI's trace evidence unit
Accepted as an expert in geology.
Bottrell said in 2009, she received 22 pairs of shoes from the Anthonys' home to examine, as well as the shovel Casey borrowed from her next-door neighbor, Brian Burner. She said she found soil material on three pairs of shoes. But soil did not match the soil from the crime scene where Caylee's remains were found in December 2008.
Cross Examination
admitted to prosecutor Jeff Ashton that just because there is no soil present on a shoe, doesn't mean its owner was never there. She said it is very easy for soil to be removed from a shoe, or be mixed with soil from somewhere else.
Madeline Montgomery:FBI forensic toxicologist
Montgomery said she looks for signs of toxins or poisins in bodily fluids and other biological evidence. Looked at Caylee's skull. She explained the process of testing hair for the jury -- it's broken down into dust using a liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer.
She said she tested for drugs found in Xanax, Klonopin and the date rape drug. All of her results were negative
Cross Examination
She agreed with Ashton that hair is not the best source to show drug exposure. Ashton also claimed a "negative" result is forensically meaningless. Montgomery admitted she did not know how much of a drug someone would need to be exposed to before giving a positive result.
She also said she had no way to test the hair for chloroform, or determine whether a victim had drowned.
Dr. Michael Sigman: professor at the University of Central Florida with a Ph.D. in chemistry, Sigman previously worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory with the state's forensic chemistry expert, Dr. Arpad Vass.
Sigman said he collected 1 liter of air from the trunk of Casey's Pontiac Sunfire, and sent the sample to Dr. Vass in Tennessee. He also took a smaller sample back to UCF with him for preliminary testing.
The results of Sigman's testing showed consistency with the presence of gasoline. He said that did not surprise him, since the air samples were from the trunk of a car. He also said the signal from the sample he took was not strong enough. So Sigman went back to the car and left the samples in the trunk for 7½ hours before testing them again.
This time, Sigman found traces of gasoline, chloroform and other chemicals he said could be found common household products.
Cross Examination
He admitted based on the sample he analyzed, his results were low, and he could not conclusively say that there was a body in the trunk. Ashton also pointed out that the samples were taken four days after the trunk's carper liner had been removed.
The prosecutor then brought up swimming pools again, hoping to discredit the defense's claim that Caylee drowned in June 2008.
Sigman said he read an article that chloroform can be found in a pool, and from people who had gone swimming, but it was in low, nonhazardous amounts.
Susan Mears: crime scene supervisor from the OCSO
Identified photos of two items taken from the scene off Suburban Drive:Plastic WDW shopping bag, and Gatorade bottle
Michael Rickenbach: FBI's forensic chemist examiner -Recall
Tested those items mentioned, as well as the car seat and steering wheel cover from the Sunfire, and one of Caylee's dolls. Rickenbach said he was only asked to test for chloroform, and his results were negative. He explained the levels were so low, he could not definitely call it substantial. He even tested a second doll he borrowed from a co-worker's child, and got the same results.
As for the Gatorade bottle, Rickenbach said it was found containing a liquid made up of cleaning compounds and testosterone. He said a syringe found in the bottle also contained testosterone compounds.
Karen Lowe: state's FBI forensics expert Recall
Lowe said she tested hair found on the trunk liner for signs of decomposition. She found none.
She also compared fabric of the duct tape found at the scene with tape taken from the Anthonys' home. Though they were the same brand of tape, Lowe said her results were dissimilar, leading her to believe that the tape was not from the same source.
Lowe also tested hair found at the crime scene, and said it did not match Caylee's or any other known people who were at the crime scene and gave her hair samples to exclude them from the results.
She said she inspected many items containing maybe hundreds of hairs, and found only one hair showing signs of decomposition.

Bugs, Bugs, and more Bugs!!!More scientific testimony!
After having to endure a fist fight in the line waiting to get a ticket to enter the courtroom today, spectators must be hoping to get something useful out of today's testimony. Neckbrace Man that has been in the trial almost everyday religiously has said that he won't return anymore because of the unruliness in line.
Tim Huntington-Forensic Entomology Consultant He is diabetic and may need to take a break to check blood sugar.
- Huntington spent time training under the state's expert Neal Haskell and has accepted as an expert witness. Baez has him draw the stages of bug progression on his CLIPBOARD! Witness laughs and says "I'm gonna try not to bore you" He drew the life cycle of flies while court watches and compares flies to butterflies. Testified that sometimes these flies crawl over 100 ft from body.
Huntington brought some demonstrative aids to help jury understand. He used junkyard cars to perform a study on the effect of insect activity on a dead body (pig) inside a trunk. The cooler it is and rain suppress insect activity. July 2010 is when Huntington inspected trunk of Pontiac Sunfire (Casey Anthony's car)
-Huntington says it took 13 seconds for a blow fly to show up. He says they are very susceptible to smell of decomp. We were shown a picture of a decomposing pig that is being fed on by maggots. In my opinion, this is more graphic than the pictures that were introduced into evidence
Many spectators had been asked to leave the courtroom because they have been caught sleeping.
Jury not present
When Prosecutor Jeff Ashton mentioned that Baez was texting while Ashton was addressing the Judge, Judge Perry said "I don't care if Mr Baez is standing on his head, I don't care if he's standing on one foot...let's be professional". "lawyer Gaga" smiled when this happened.
zzzzzzzzz as lawyers are told to read pages from deposition judge Baez ordered them to do immediately
-Ashton says Huntington isn't qualified to testify about stains. Defense says Entomologists study human decomposition. He says decompositional staining is very obvious. He is unaware of a method that can remove these stains. He also say the look and feel is black and greasy. He tells the Judge that he has never testified on this subject before because he has never been asked. His field is bugs. He thinks that in regards to the insects that he tested from the Pontiac Sunfire, he wouldn't think there was a dead body in that vehicle. Defense has known this since 2008, yet they did not dislose this information. Judge Perry does not see a reason he should allow this information in court. Ashton says if he knew witness would give an opinion or talk about color of stain he would have questioned him about it & called other experts.
Jury is returned
-Decompositional Fluid cannot be cleaned with paper towels. He has never seen a case where a carpet was cleaned. The carpets have always been removed when a body has decomposed in a location.
*personal note* I don't think this makes sense because the pig was not put inside bags like Caylee's body was. According to the State's witness someone was able to clean this fluid with paper towels.
In Casey's car he could not find any body parts of flies. He only found one leg in the trash bag and he doesn't think it means anything. If there was a body in the car trunk, there wouldn't be just one fly around it. He claims there would have been thousands or six thousand legs inside that trunk. Most of the insects that were found in the trunk eat just about anything and they were recovered in the trash bag. In his opinion, they don't mean anything of forensic value. You would expect to find these in kitchen garbage. In regards to the number of bugs that were in the trash bag, there does not seem to be a huge number that would show a decomposing body.
Baez at this point asked for a recess and seems extremely happy with the testimony and smiles at jury. Jurors have been taking alot of notes.
As soon as Court resumed, before the jury was returned, Baez objectsed to Ashton asking Huntington about being trained by Haskell. Perry responded by saying: "It will depend upon conclusion of your direct whether this issue can be brought up."
He laughs when asked whether there is a difference between garbage and trash. He uses those words interchangeably. This contradicts what his mentor (Haskell) testified to earlier in the case. The paper towels that were recovered from the trash bag contained some fly puparia (cocoons). There were a few items that these fly puparia were located in. Given the articles that were in the trash, he was not surprised by this at all.
-Huntington: "insects on paper towels found in trash bag not there to feed." Contradicts Haskell.
Saw a piece of dried up piece of meat in the trash but thinks that tobacco spit in the trash could have attracted small scuttle flies. The flies will be attracted more to the wet garbage than the dry ones. There is nothing remarkable about the bugs he found in the car. Insect material recovered in the recovery site is what you would expect to find at that location during those conditions. There were no blowflies around. "Their absence is significant in this situation is unusual because they should have been there. That indicates that the body was moved or transported from some other location to the site where it was discovered. It shows post-mortem movement."says Huntington. Sidebar
*personal note* Of course the body was moved. Did Baez forget the part when the forensic techs testified that the body was moved by scavenger animals!
Cross Examination
Not saying that this body fully skeletonized in another location and moved into this location. The body began decomposition (early stages) elsewhere. Ashton immediately gets Huntington to admit body moved in early stages. Consistent with state theory. He tells the prosecution that there are 5 stages of decomp: fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced, skeletal remains. Ashton: how long was body at Suburban Drive? Huntington: placed there 2-3 days post mortem. Possible scenarios :Body was moved in late decomp stage, large #'s of maggots were removed from the body and then body transported, removal of large # of maggots and body was placed in bags. Ashton claims fourth scenario :body could have been put in trash bag before flies accessed. Witness claims body was available. Ashton then reads deposition of witness where witness says there is not much to disagree with Dr. Haskell's report. Let it be noted that jury does not know that Haskell was Huntington's teacher.
Agrees that the area where a body decomposed would stink and that the smell would not be removed. He investigated car 2 years after this occurred. Sidebar
*note Casey is not struggling through testimony of bugs eating at her daughter's remains*
Huntington agrees none of his studies deal with small kids wrapped in bags or blankets. Ashton asks why didn't he wrap his pigs in a blanket!? Courtroom erupts in laughter. Witness thanks him for that. Ashton laughs and says he needed it at the moment. Ashton notes Caylee was wrapped in a blanket, 2 bags and a laundry bag! Huntington's says he did this experiment bc hes wanted to for a long time and it wasn't specifically modeled after this case. Huntington says you will still see fly activity in trunk of vehicle and they could penetrate through the bags. Huntington says if a smell can get out of a trash bag, obviously it is not airtight. A fly can lay eggs in the knot of a trash bag and when maggots hatch they will enter bag. Never used chloroform and does not know how flies will react to the chemical.
Finds it unlikely that flies will not be involved because of chloroform involvement. Ashton mentions that he is suggesting that the chemical components of the air have changed. Things got extremely heated between these two. Huntington says if chloroform acts like other chemicals -it would thwart flies for a short period of time.Witness says he doesn't know what was in the paper towels and Ashton makes him read the report Dr. Vass wrote to find out. Claims he never examined the paper towels itself that Dr. Vass claims had decomposing compound on it. Now he claims flies would have been attracted to it. Though he says that there was a large amount of cans and bottles with tobacco spit inside. Ashton goes through the garbage and lets Huntington look at it and say if there was tobacco remnants in it. Huntington says he's not sure whether tobacco will most def. not smell like decomposing body. Ashton asks if decomposing saliva will smell like a fully decomposing body. Huntington agrees that no, it will not smell like decomposing body.
Ashton puts his gloves on in preparation to open up a container that had a small piece of salami in it. He shows it to the witness in order to show the witness that it is a piece of paper and not a piece of meat as the witness first thought. Dr. Huntington now agrees that there does not appear to be food in trash.Agrees that the experiment decomposition does not coincide with a 2 year old wrapped up in trash bags and blankets in Florida heat for 2 days. Decomp. could be accelerated with heat but not as much.
Re-direct
Dr. Haskell's report on Suburban Drive is on point. The evidence from site of recovery shows that body was there for a period of time, possibly months. Evidence suggest body was moved from some location and after some stages of decomp has occurred. 75 cocoons were recovered from trash bag. That is very few when a single female fly can lay 100 of eggs. He would expect to find many more flies if body was in trunk. Disagrees with Haskell as to where body was placed.Huntington doesn't think a body was ever inn the trunk. He says the evidence doesn't show it. The fatty acids located in the paper towels can be found in other things not just decomp. products. Huntington says Dr. Vass' report doesn't say "adipocere" it says fatty acids consistent with (list of things). Adipocere shows up in late stages and time it takes to develop depends on the environmental situation. Baez asks if trash containers would be in the same condition as it was 3 years ago. The witness says he would expect the physical evidence shown now to be different. Trash bag that was in car trunk was knotted and maggots found their way in. He didn't include blankets and trash bags in his study because the study was not made specifically for this case. He performed this study because he had been wanting to do this study for a long time. When witness was shown obvious stain in trunk liner, Baez asked if he could make out the stain. Witness says that the stain does not look like any decomposition stain.
Re-cross
Witness says he doesn't know if garbage in trunk was wet or dry. When something gets wet non food item does not turn into food to his understanding. Witness got his PhD in 2008, the same year this happened. Got his Masters in 2005. His knowledge of adipocere started when he was 16 when he worked for a mortuary service. Has never been qualified as an expert of studying a stain. This is the first time that someone has asked him to determine from a photograph if a stain was human decomposition! Report Dr. Huntington entered does not contain any opinion on his interpretation of the stain. Ashton points out that nobody mentioned that the study was not to be compared to Caylee's case.
Baez questions witness again
He is the youngest Board Certified Forensic Entomologist. He has worked on 75 death investigation with regards to Forensic entomology. Many cases come as photographs to him.
Ashton questions
You mentioned you have never been asked to look at stains before and now you say you have. He says outside of a court of law he didn't. Mentions that in 2008, Baez mentioned the stain to him and yet he never put it in the report. He says he didn't include it in the report because the insects were not forensic bugs.
BAM! Witness Excused!

Prosecution may rest its case today
Warning: There are graphic photos in this blog. Do not continue if you do not wish to see.
The state's final witnesses will take the stand today in what has been a great historical trial.
Prosecutors say Caylee was suffocated with duct tape, while the defense says she drowned in her grandparents' pool.
Judge Perry apparently was confused and said Good Morning to the jury followed by laughter and correcting himself
Catherine Theisen: FBI Forensic Mitochondrial DNA Examiner, Chief of Quality and Assurance Unit at FBI in Quantico
-has testified as an expert 20 times
-has been accepted as an expert
-nuclear DNA is inherited from our parents, Mitochondrial DNA is inherited from our mothers
- tested Q12 (hair sample) from car and cheek (buccal) swabs from Casey Anthony
- the hair and cheek swabs show that neither Cindy, Lee, maternal grandmother or maternal uncles, Casey nor Caylee can be excluded from the hair sample
-received hair mass found at site with skull and submitted it for testing as well. The DNA type is the same type as the cheek and hair evidence.
Alina Burroughs: CSI OCSO
-part of search warrant on Anthony home and also was there to recover evidence at scene
-shown an aerial shot of East Orange County. Showing where home is in relation to location of remains found.
-found different stickers in Casey's room. Heart stickers.
-hollowed out sticker backing is on envelope
Cross Examination
-The sticker backing is sitting on an envelope that has a $.37 stamp. Also in the box are items from baby shower.
-Baez asks how long it's been since stamps were that price. Asks if stuff is old. Burroughs says not comfortable answering.
-Baez points out sticker page of stars. Burroughs says she also found a scrap book page w/ stickers on it in Caylee's room.
-Burroughs said she didn't find any stickers in master bedroom (George and Cindy Anthony room)
-Burroughs was at crime scene for 9 days.
-Burroughs ended saying sticker found in woods was thicker (bubbly perhaps) she says she did not find one like that at Anthony home.
Cindy Anthony
-Cindy says she was in LA when Caylee's remains were discovered.
-Cindy wasn't home when search warrant was executed. Prosecution is questioning Cindy's hair styles.
-says she noticed the Winnie the Pooh blanket (found w remains) went missing in May.
-prosecution asks Cindy about the length of Caylee's hair in a picture. Cindy says she would trim her hair every few months
-Cindy says Caylee's hair was never processed.
-Casey started doing different things w her hair after Caylee was born. She cut it short or color it.
-hair found in trunk was brown. Cindy says she's been coloring her hair blonde for awhile and keeps it relatively short.
-Cindy says Lee keeps hair short and never colors his hair.
-says her mother (lives in Mt Dora) has been in Pontiac SunFire before. Says Lee and Casey and Cindy have driven car
-she can remember black duct tape and maybe blue and possibly silver too at house
-duct tape was used at command center - but she doesn't recall if it was from her house or not.
-George told her he put a piece of duct tape on gas can. George told her when can came back from Sheriff's office vent cover was missing - put tape on it
-Cindy says she didn't know where duct tape from command center came from.
-Cindy says they put the canvas bags inside the black plastic bags in the garage
-After search warrant Cindy says she never saw those bags again.
- says she never remembers seeing that shirt (shirt that was found on Caylee) before that July 2009 depo.
Jury asked to examine 313. 313 is sticker found with Caylee. Viewed through overhead projector and manually as well.
-George has put his arm around Cindy. They are both in the back of the courtroom.
-Jurors did not make any facial expressions while reviewing heart shaped sticker
When leaving stand Cindy Anthony did mouth I love you to her daughter. Confirmed w/ producer who reviewed tape.
Cross Examination
*Cindy looked down instead of straight ahead as she did with prosecution when answering
-Cindy says they've owned the Pontiac SunFire for about 8 years before law enforcement confiscated it. She got it in 2000
-Read deposition. In deposition, Prosecution asked if Casey used any duct tape after released from jail. Cindy said she didn't think so because George had it.
-Baez mentioned shorts in picture were the ones she was found with. Shorts were size 24 months. Caylee at time of death wore 3T. Baez claims person who put those shorts on her was not familiar with Caylee.
Jury just shown a close up of "missing Caylee" flyer which has a piece of Henkle duct tape. It came from a news report . The state also showed employment of George and Cindy Anthony.
Jennifer Welch- CSI OCSO
-took pictures of Casey's Bella Vita Tattoo
Bobby Williams: Tattoo Artist at Cast Iron Tattoo
-has known Casey for 7 years

-after piece was done, she paid for everyone to eat pizza for lunch
-came alone on the 2nd and the 15th. She came in the 15th to set up appt. for herself and a friend.
-Mentioned Caylee was with the nanny and she will accompany Casey next time she gets tattooed.
Cross Examination
-Williams says it's common in his line of work for ppl to get tattoo's in honor or memory of someone.
-Baez asks if Williams did George or Cindy's tattoo's. He said no but state objected. Perry sustained.
Re-direct
-Casey did not look mournful
Last witness for the defense has been excused!!
Juror 11 handed notepad to deputy. Said it was full.
Mason is asking for a mistrial again. Issues regarding heart shaped sticker. He says it has nothing to with case. Draws speculation. Also Mason says state tries to introduce remorse. Also brings up skull superimposed video again.
State says getting a tattoo of beautiful or good life is unusual behavior if daughter is missing or taken against will.
Judge Perry denies motion for mistrial.
Defense says they could not move up witnesses so they will begin their case Thursday. Defense tells judge they will be filing a motion for a directed verdict of acquittal tomorrow. They will basically say state failed to prove it's case and charges should be dropped

4th week of the Casey Anthony trial
As the Casey Anthony trial enters its fourth week Monday, prosecutors may be getting ready to rest their case of murder against the 25-year-old mother.
Stephen Shaw : FBI hair and fiber examiner
- He is considered an expert witness.
- Shaw says he found signs of decomposition on the hair on the trunk
-The hair matched the hair in the brush. But Shaw says it is not a means of positive identification.
-Defense says they haven't seen the PowerPoint Shaw did and is going to talk about.
-Defense will now get a chance to see the PowerPoint b4 it is discussed in front of the jury.
This has to be the most boring part of the case up to date. Once defense goes through the powerpoint slide by slide, the jury will be taken through it slide by slide
- Baez wants this PowerPoint thrown out. Says it was designed for this case & it's not accurate to compare hairs found in diff. regions.
-Judge will NOT allow Powerpoint. Court finds it "troubling" it was not given to defense ahead of time. A win for the defense.
-Jury saw picture of hair with apparent decomposition. It has a black band in the middle of the hair.
Cross Examination
-Shaw says he cannot say for sure the hair came from a decomposing body.
-it's a transfer of hair whether it's one hair or alot of hair
-heat can increase rate of decomposition, but not my area of expertise
Re-direct
-the hair mass in the brush like appearance is an indicator of advance decomposition
Elizabeth Fontaine: FBI Examiner
She talks very slowly and clearly and looks at the jury
-Fontaine looked at 3 duct tape strips from remains
-hair approx. 6-8 inches in length
-notes indicate glue was almost gone and no longer sticky
-Fontaine knew tape was found on remains she examined possible fingerprints on tape.
-Found no fingerprints but found outline of heart on ducttape
-approx. the size of a dime
-the outline of the heart resembles the glue or debris if you would wear a bandaid for a long period of time
-Conducted a test that used RAM. Type of Dye and typical black power with alternate black powder in order to lift the print
-This is all new to jury. They did NOT see the picture of heart stickers in Anthony's home on Saturday.
Cross Examination
-Fontaine is 2nd person to look at duct tape. 3 pieces examined. She looks for visible prints first.
State has no more witnesses today. They should conclude presentation tomm. or sometime by noon on Wednesday according to Judge Perry. Defense would start on Wednesday. So far they are ahead of schedule. Depending on length of Defense's presentation, probably by the end of next week, evidence will be concluded. Get the jury deliberating the 25th or the 27th subject to change.
Court will restart tomm. at 1:00 pm
Enjoy the rest of the day! I know I will!

"Casey Anthony has arrived at the Orange County Courthouse Holding Facility.
Inmate Anthony will attend court today and is now in the secured areas of the Orange County Courthouse.
While we can't reveal any medical information regarding her status yesterday and this morning due to confidentiality laws, she was seen by Corrections Health Services Doctors immediately after arriving back at the jail yesterday." Orange County Correctional Facility
-First photo is the torn and tattered shorts Utz says consistent with decomposition
-keeping her head down entire time. Photo shows letters from clothing to say "comes small big trouble"
Cross Examination
- bones were disrupted but not broken.
John Schultz:UCF anthropology professor specializing in forensics
-Photo is of vertebrae are same tannish brown as clothing. About 8 laid out.
-Photo of bone fragment found on12/8/08 marked as found six inches deeper.
-Femurs were chewed on by animals
-remains were there for about 6 months
Casey wipes away tears
-accepted as expert witness
-Photo shows bones making up fingers three bones per finger each smaller than a quarter
-Pics of pelvis bones Schultz says important where one found completely buried in muck
-Jurors see skeleton pieced together for first time
- topographical map of where bones found
-Seems most bones found in area a same spot skull found. Map is b/w without any distance markers easily seen
-says most of the spine was dragged away from skull since it did not have as many ligaments holding together
-Schultz says appears bones dispersed naturally by decomposition. And was intact skeleton when put in woods
Dr. Jan Garavaglia- Chief Medical Examiner-Dr. G television show
-photo of the hair mat can see the wholes Dr G talking about from insect activity
-Blanket had Winnie the pooh on it testimony by family earlier said it was Caylee's favorite
-Roots and plants lot more recognizable than the blanket in photo state trying to show it had been there for awhile
-Photo from 12/11/8 has bone out of bag labeled unidentified remains.Later identified by FBI
Watching some of these photos are really hard to hear the description and to even see the photos. I can't even begin to imagine what is going on through Casey's mind! She deserves going through this. She deserves to listen to what her actions did to this poor child.
-Dr. G examined evidence and acknowleged them
-Manner of death is classification based on scientific evidence available in this case is homicide by undetermined means
-Homicide based on: 3 factors 1. not reported 2. hidden body and 3. duct tape
-no reason for duct tape after death
-child could absolutely die from overexposure to chloraform
Cross Examination
- she doesn't watch news so didn't really know it was a big case before remains found
- she knew chloroform was possibility before she began examining remains from investigators
-Ashton overruled several times related to Dr. Goldberger being allowed to test bones for Zanax
-Casey had no reaction to talking about animals chewing on the bones caused a breakdown earlier today
-Big moment of case Dr. G talks about drownings always being reported (100 % of the time) . Mason says that has nothing to do with case... Though it was in the defense opening statement
Dr. G won that battle with Mason. She leaves the courtroom smiling!
More graphic pictures are being prepped for the jury. Casey has not looked at any of these pictures through the whole time. Now she is looking at it with a scowl.Apparently the pictures are of superimposed pictures of the skull over Caylee's smiling face with Casey. The video shows her decomposing slowly and returning back to normal. Prosecution demonstrates it as unfortunately graphic representation establishing that the duct tape did fit over her face to kill her. Casey shows no other emotion other than anger! My question: she was traumatized listening to the way the bones were, yet she has no problem seeing this!!
Ashton states clearly "duct tape is murder weapon" Baez says I thought you said it was chloroform
They are going to bring Dr. Warren up with no jury to see if video can be used. Again, jury out of room for this testimony of a superimposition video of duct tape and death and how it would happen to Caylee.
Dr. Warren: Forensic Anthropologist UCF
- he suggested bizarre video to State but never saw duct tape on skull first hand
-Photo of Caylee used in video they got off the Internet.
-Dr. Warren says video important because shows possible tape covered both nose and mouth at 1.75 cm
- Dr. Warren describing his superimposed photo video process now.
-Casey appeared to say "That's horrible."She also said "I'm not looking"

| picture used in video |
Cross Examination
-No laugh from Casey when after much debate about easel witness points out now he can't see it
